University reopens search for general legal counsel

A search for a general legal counsel for New Mexico State University has been reopened, according to search committee chairman James McDonough, vice president for Business and Finance.


eral counsel will report to the regents' chief of staff and will function as the chief internal legal officer of the university. The attorney will serve as legal counselor, apprising university officials of legal and constitutional rights and duties, and engaging and monitoring the work of outside counsel as required. Experience in higher education, litigation and trial practice is preferred but not required, according to the job posting.

Search committee members include Maureen Camunez, director of Intellectual Property/Technology Transfer; Laura Gutierrez Spencer, director of Chicano Programs; Pete Gonzales, assistant director of Personnel; Jake Hill, president of Associated Students of New Mexico State University; and James O'Donnell, president of the Faculty Senate and associate professor of Curriculum and Instruction.
