Award-winning author featured in Visiting Author Series

Award-winning author Mary Leader will be featured in La Sociedad para las Artes' Fall 2001 Visiting Author Series Friday, Sept. 28. The author will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. in New Mexico State University's Hardman Hall Room 106.



Author Mary Leader will be featured in the Visiting Authors Series at New Mexico State University Friday, Sept. 28.

After years of practicing law, as Oklahoma assistant attorney general and referee for the Oklahoma Supreme Court, Leader decided to concentrate on her poetry.

Her first book, "Red Signature," published in 1997, won the national poetry prize. Her second book, "The Penultimate Suitor," published in 2001, won the Iowa Poetry Prize.

Leader earned her master's in fine art from Warren Wilson College in North Carolina and her doctorate in literature from Brandeis University in Massachusetts. She teaches at the University of Memphis and at Warren Wilson.
