Former educators to be honored by NMSU?s College of Education

New Mexico State University?s College of Education will honor Virginia Foltz and Clarence Fielder with Aggie Cornerstone Awards at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum.

Established in 2012, the Aggie Cornerstone Award celebrates excellence in education and recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact on children and families in New Mexico.

?Mr. Fielder and Mrs. Foltz have had a tremendous impact on the educational community of Dona Ana County,? said Michael Morehead, dean of the College of Education. ?Both were innovative classroom teachers, using the most up-to-date instructional strategies that involved students in active learning experiences and made the classroom come alive.?

As educational leaders, Foltz and Fielder served on numerous committees and were leaders in curriculum, instruction and novel approaches to education.

?Both were outstanding administrators, and their leadership provided quality education for the children in our schools for many years,? Morehead said.

Combined, Foltz and Fielder taught in the Las Cruces area for more than 60 years.

Tickets for the awards dinner are $60 per person and all proceeds will benefit the Aggie Cornerstone Scholarship. For those interested in attending, contact Ashley Jurado, in the College of Education Dean?s Office, at 575-646-8072 or ajurado@nmsu.edu, by April 11.
