NMSU to host talk in Spanish on women of Juarez

New Mexico State University?s Center for Latin American and Border Studies will host a talk in Spanish on the social situation of poor women in Juarez and the border region featuring Elsa Patricia Hernandez at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at the Nason House, 1070 University Ave.


Hernandez, a professor and researcher at Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, will present a lecture entitled ?Procesos de agencia en mujeres de sectores populares de Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.? NMSU Spanish professor Jose Manuel Garcia will host the event.

Since 2009, Hernandez has worked at UACJ as a professor in the master?s program in social work with an emphasis in interdisciplinary studies of gender and social sciences.

Prior to her move to the university, she worked for the Municipal Institute of Research and Planning and the City of Juarez?s Urban Development Plan.

Hernandez spent 13 years working in newspapers such as El Fronterizo, El Diario de Nuevo Casas Grandes, Norte de Ciudad Juarez and in television.
