NMSU Department of Art to host open house

New Mexico State University?s Department of Art will host its first Open House event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 25.

The event will be scattered throughout campus, taking place in Williams Hall, the NMSU University Art Gallery and Wells Hall. It will be free and open to all community members. Visitors will be able to explore the facilities, view student works and enjoy light snacks.

?The highlight of the event will be the MFA exhibition, BFA exhibition and collaborative project by metals students at NMSU and Stephen F. Austin State University,? said Motoko Furuhashi, NMSU assistant professor in metals.

In addition, the ceramics, jewelry, printmaking and photography students will sell some works in order to raise money for student travels and research. The proceeds also will aid in hosting visiting lecturers and workshop leaders.

Along with Jessika Edgar, NMSU assistant professor in ceramics, Furuhashi has been working on event planning since last semester.

?We are both new hires since fall 2013, and felt the need of community engagement with the department,? Furuhashi said. ?We wish this event will reach out to the local and regional community.?

Garson Lamb, graphic design student, also has contributed by volunteering to make all posters and other publications. The NMSU Metals Club and NMSU University Gallery have generously supported the event.
