NMSU College of Business to offer fully online MBA program

New Mexico State University?s College of Business will soon begin offering its largest graduate degree program in an entirely online format ? a first for the college.

The online Master?s of Business Administration program will provide the same courses from the same award-winning faculty members that are currently available to students attending class on campus. Interim Dean Kathy Brook said the business faculty already has extensive online teaching experience, and is ready to bring additional courses online.

The program will begin in the spring semester of 2015, allowing interested students to get any prerequisite undergraduate courses they may need out of the way this summer and fall.

?We will be teaching the program with the same faculty as we do our face-to-face classes,? Brook said. ?I think this is an attractive option, particularly for those who already have a connection to NMSU and live elsewhere ? since they?ll be taking just six credits per semester, they can take advantage of our in-state tuition without moving to Las Cruces.?

The NMSU business and accounting programs are accredited by AACSB ? the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business ? placing them among the top 15 percent of business programs in the world. The program currently has 138 students, of whom 25 to 30 are enrolled in a partially online program at Sandia National Laboratories. Brook said she expects the new, fully online degree to attract an additional 20 to 25 students who might not otherwise be able to complete an MBA degree.

?There may be some students who would otherwise be in the face-to-face program, but a great benefit of this is that we?re making the program accessible to many more people who otherwise couldn?t get it,? Brook said.

The two-year program will consist of two courses each spring, fall and summer session, for a total of 36 credits. Standard graduate tuition applies to the online MBA program, with an additional $35 fee per credit for online delivery, which applies to all online courses at NMSU.

The College of Business also offers master?s degrees in accountancy, economics and applied statistics, along with a professional doctorate of economic development and doctorates in business administration with either a management or marketing concentration.
