The New Mexico State University Fire Department will host a Fire Services Retreat for the 16 fire districts in Dona Ana County on Saturday, March 2, at the university's Corbett Center Student Union.
ning session, beginning at 8:30 a.m., will include presentations by county officials on issues relevant to fire services and a overview by State Fire Marshal George Chavez of the Fire Chief's Handbook.
The afternoon session, beginning at 1 p.m., will be an open forum on "Dona Ana County Emergency Services: Where We Are Today, Where We Should Be Tomorrow and Where Can We Be in Five Years."
New Mexico State University Fire Chief Darrell Smith said the retreat is a first for the county's fire districts.
"Our thought was to have a work session where we can get the 16 fire districts together to discuss the major issues that we are facing," Smith said. "We see it as a chance to determine what the future of our services will be."
