In-house general counsel joins New Mexico State University

Bruce R. Kite, an attorney with extensive experience advising universities on legal matters, has joined New Mexico State University as its first in-house general counsel, Regents Chief of Staff Juan N. Franco said today.

ho started his job Feb. 18, serves as the university's legal counselor advising the Board of Regents and administration on issues affecting the university. He also will supervise work performed by outside law firms, according to Franco. He reports to the Office of the Regents Chief of Staff.

Before coming to the university, Kite served eight years as associate university counsel at the University of Illinois, where he handled academic, business and clinical matters at the University of Illinois Medical Center. Kite also has served as general counsel to various not-for-profit organizations including healthcare organizations.

Kite received a bachelor of arts in finance from the University of Illinois where he was named a James Scholar. He received a juris doctorate with honors from the Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago - Kent College of Law. He is a member of the Illinois Bar and admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
