NMSU and UNM Board of Regents to hold special joint meeting Sept. 20

The New Mexico State University and University of New Mexico Board of Regents will hold a special joint meeting at 1 p.m. Sept. 20 in Domenici Hall on the NMSU Las Cruces campus to discuss current issues in higher education in New Mexico.


?This is a great opportunity to discuss issues that are critical to both NMSU and UNM. We are excited to welcome our colleagues to our beautiful campus, especially the new Domenici Hall that will have just celebrated its grand opening,? said NMSU Regents Chair Mike Cheney. ?This meeting also gives us the chance to review joint research initiatives.?

Planned agenda items for the joint meeting include a discussion led by NMSU President Garrey Carruthers on the higher education funding formula and the priorities of the Council of University Presidents for the 2015 Legislative Session.

NMSU Regent Kari Mitchell and her counterpart from the UNM regents will discuss a K-20 Pipeline initiative and employability partnership. Greg Fant, NMSU deputy provost, also will be joined by a colleague from UNM, for a discussion on articulation.

Finally, NMSU leading cancer researcher Jeffrey Arterburn will discuss joint research initiatives between the two universities.

Copies of the agenda for the special joint meeting will be available at NMSU?s Zuhl Library, Las Cruces campus not less than 72 hours prior to the meeting and also will be posted on the NMSU website at http://regents.nmsu.edu/agenda/. This special meeting of the Board of Regents will not be available through webcast.

The NMSU Regents also will meet in a special closed executive session at 11 a.m. Sept. 20 in Domenici Hall on the Las Cruces campus to discuss personnel, in accordance with sections 10-15-1 H (2), (7), and (8) of the New Mexico Open Meetings Act.
