NMSU to host Peek of Las Cruces Street Fair Oct. 16

Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at New Mexico State University is hosting the first-ever Peek of Las Cruces Street Fair from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, on Locust Street east of NMSU?s Intramural Field.

The free event will allow NMSU students, faculty and staff the opportunity to discover the many different aspects the Las Cruces community has to offer. The family-friendly affair will feature local food vendors and live local music from Bourbon Legend, Sean Lucy and DAMN Union.

?Such events as Peek of Las Cruces are successful in several cities,? said Michael Jasek, dean of students. ?We figure it could be successful for the NMSU community. This also will help our new students to settle into Las Cruces and make it home by knowing what restaurants and activities are within the area. We hope our students discover some of their favorite places to go through this event.?

Select food vendors will have free samples and events for children include face-painting and activity tables. Vendors from the Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market will be selling products, and non-profit programs will have information on services and volunteer opportunities.

?The Peek of Las Cruces is an opportunity for the NMSU community to learn what is available in the greater Las Cruces community,? said Meg Long, program specialist for the Wellness, Alcohol and Violence Education program. ?I love the idea of having food trucks, restaurants and artisans providing their services to our students, faculty, and staff right here on campus.?

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Meg Long at meglong@nmsu.edu.
