NMSU Library presents Folklife Festival Exhibition

The New Mexico State University Library will host a selected portion of the ?Lore of the Archives: Dr. Andrew Wiget and the New Mexico Folklife Festival? print collection for public viewing from Oct. 15, 2014, to Feb. 15, 2015, in Branson Library?s Milton Gallery.

The collection, located on the fourth floor, will feature approximately 20 to 25 images from the Wiget collection, known for showcasing the colorful diversity of New Mexico.

Andrew Wiget was a former English professor and director of NMSU?s New Mexico Heritage Center. He defined folk life as the skills, crafts and forms of knowledge and customs learned orally or by imitation.

The selected images are scenes from the 1993 New Mexico Folklife Festival, a cultural event held in Las Cruces? Young Park. The festival hosted more than 30,000 visitors, 105 artisans and presenters and several horses. It is now part of the NMSU University Archives.

The exhibition is in conjunction with New Mexico?s celebration of archives. Gov. Susana Martinez has proclaimed October 2014 ?American Archives Month? throughout New Mexico.
