New Mexico State University events Oct. 18-24

The following is a list of events taking place on the New Mexico State University Las Cruces campus between the dates of Oct. 18 and 24.


NMSU?s OASIS Club will host a screening of ?Weight of the Nation: Part 2 ? Choices,? at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22. The event is co-presented by NMSU?s Human Nutrition and Food Science Association and will feature a speech on World Food Day.

There will be a food drive for World Food Day at the showing. Those attending should consider bringing nonperishable food items and dry goods.

The film is 74 minutes in length and explores America?s obesity epidemic, examining how food and lifestyle changes can positively impact health.


NM State Athletics and the men?s basketball team will host a Pan Amaniac practice at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23. This practice is open to all NMSU students and free T-shirts will be provided for the first 200 students in the building. Coach Menzies will discuss the team and students will have the opportunity to learn traditional chants and cheers from NMSU student leaders and the marketing staff.


NMSU?s women?s volleyball team will play Chicago State at noon Saturday, Oct. 18. The event is free for students.

NMSU?s women?s soccer team will play WAC rival Utah Valley at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at the NMSU Soccer Complex. The event is free for students.


Students interested in a future athletics career are invited to apply for a student volunteer position with the Aggie Athletic Club. Accepted students will have the opportunity to attend socials and private events, help plan large-scale athletics events, meet donors and attend hospitality and pre-game events. The Barnes & Noble at NMSU Bookstore & Café in Las Cruces will host author Meyer Stahl from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. He will present ?World War 3 Coming Soon! The Good News of the Prince of Peace is Coming.? The event is free and open to the public.

Join the ?Alabama ?All American Tour 2014? with Jamie Lynn Spears? Facebook event page at https://www.facebook.com/events/579556448836517/ in order to be registered to win a family four pack of tickets to the Nov. 15 concert taking place at NMSU?s Pan American Center. Those interested can also invite Facebook friends to the page without hurting their chance of winning. Another family four pack will be given to an account identified as ?invited.? Sodexo Campus Dining and NMSU Housing & Campus Life will host a Hunger Banquet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the outdoor patio next to Taos Restaurant. Student, faculty and staff participants will be randomly chosen to enjoy a meal that proportionally reflects the real life circumstances for both affluent and impoverished people around the world. The event is free of charge. To take part in this hunger awareness initiative, contact 575-646-1749.
