NMSU to host ?The Four Stages of Learning? Workshop

The New Mexico State University DanceSport team will host presenter Jessika Ferm from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the Activity Center Room 226.

The event is made possible by DanceSport director Hannah Cole with support from the NMSU Dance Program and College of Education.

Ferm will present ?The Four Stages of Learning: Powerful Strategies to Creating Joyful and Successful Results,? a workshop exploring how to move through challenging phases in the learning process. In addition, the presentation will touch on performance anxiety and how to overcome it.

After meeting Ferm at one of the nation?s largest dance competitions last November and using her book, ?The Ballroom Dance Coach,? in the classroom, Cole felt that Ferm?s strategy is worth sharing with a wider audience.

?Most of the time we and our thoughts are the only real thing that holds us back,? Cole said. ?Attending Ms. Ferm?s workshop will give people a new tool by which to learn and to coach themselves through their learning process. Anyone attempting to achieve anything will benefit from gaining this tool.?

Not being classified as an athletic team, NMSU DanceSport does its own fundraising and feels grateful toward the university and Las Cruces community for the support received.

?It is exciting for NMSU DanceSport to be able to provide a special training to the university and the community at large, as they support us in so many ways,? Cole said. ?We are thrilled to have the opportunity to provide for the community in a way that we believe will make a difference in their lives.?

In addition to this presentation, NMSU DanceSport offers regular free Tuesday night dance lessons.
