Sign-up started for Educators' Job Fair

Interview sign-up activity has begun for the 2003 Educators' Job Fair sponsored by New Mexico State University's College of Education and Placement and Career Services.

r, which is billed as "one of the premier educator job fairs in the Southwest" because of the number of districts represented, will be held April 28 and 29 in the Corbett Center Ballrooms on the Las Cruces campus. More than 125 school districts, covering a 12-state area, are expected to participate.

"This is an excellent opportunity for candidates to reach a broad base of employers," said Steven S. Salway, director of Placement and Career Services. "Because of the huge teacher shortages, schools are more aggressive in their recruiting activities. Consequently they are willing to travel to fairs where they will find quality candidates. Many districts now offer competitive starting salaries and excellent fringe benefit packages."

The placement office expects more than 400 candidates from across the region to participate in the structured 30-minute interviews. Registration is free. A simplified registration form, when completed on the Internet, will allow candidates to select desired interviews through on-line access.

New employers register for the event daily, so it is important for candidates to view the schedule regularly as interviews will be open on a space-available basis. The more popular school districts will fill quickly. For more information and registration, view the Web site at http://www.nmsu.edu/pment or call (505) 646-2849 or (505) 646-1112.
