New Mexico State University events Nov. 1-7

The following is a list of events taking place on the New Mexico State University Las Cruces campus between the dates of Nov. 1 and 7.


The NMSU volleyball team will take on Utah Valley at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. This will be the final home match for Aggie volleyball seniors. Students get in for free.


The NMSU football team will take on Texas State University at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. NMSU Athletics will host Military Appreciation Day as military vehicles including the Army Adventure Semi take over the tailgate lots. There will be special recognitions and tributes throughout the game. Tickets for all active duty or retired military and their immediate families are only $1. The University Art Gallery will host a gallery talk at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at its D.W. Williams Hall location. The talk will be led by NMSU art department conservator Silvia Marinas-Feliner. She will discuss the restoration process of the sculpture located on the east side of the Speech and Communication building, designed by conceptual artist Sol LeWitt. At 6 p.m. following the talk, there will be an unveiling of a new plaque at the sculpture.


The Barnes & Noble at NMSU Campus Bookstore will host a reading and signing of ?Twenty,? a collection of police stories by retired Las Cruces police officer J.R. Lonsway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. At 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, Tacky the Penguin will visit for a children?s story time.

The 3rd Floor Bistro at the Danny Villanueva Victory Club will host an ?I Heart NY? Bistro Buffet between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5. The event will embody New York culture through music and decorations. The menu includes buffalo chicken breast, asparagus with tomatoes and onions, Brooklyn lasagna, roasted fingerling potatoes, New York cheesecake and decadent chocolate brownies. In partnership with the Center for English Language Programs and the Brazilian international students, Corbett Center Student Union?s Taos Restaurant will feature a Brazilian buffet between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6. The event, titled ?Taste of Brazil,? will feature Brazilian cuisine, decorations and music. The cost is $7.89 plus tax, or one meal plan swipe.
