New Mexico State University?s Center for Latin American and Border Studies¬ will present a talk by University of Kansas Associate Professor Tamara Falicov on how international film festivals help shape and circulate Latin American cinema.

The event will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Nason House, 1070 University Ave.

Falicov will discuss how European film festivals such as Rotterdam, Berlin, Cannes and others are providing opportunities for Latin American filmmakers to receive further training in screenwriting, production funding and post-production grants (editing, sound mixing, subtitling, etc.). Her research looks at the positives and negatives in this exchange, and presents alternative vision for how these meetings/encounters might work more democratically between festivals of the North and filmmakers from the South.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Anja Hansen at anjah@nmsu.edu.
