Engineering group to host concrete canoe competition

The New Mexico State University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will host the Annual Concrete Canoe Competition at Caballo Lake at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26.

am participating in this competition will bring a concrete canoe they designed and built before the event. Canoes will be judged based on their race time, design and concrete mix used.

The ASCE chapter of the University of New Mexico will host the Steel Bridge Competition at 10 a.m. April 25, on the UNM main campus in Albuquerque. Each team has worked on a design for this competition throughout the year. Teams will be judged on how fast they construct their bridge, how much weight the bridge can hold and how much it would cost if it were life-size.

Teams from New Mexico State, UNM and the University of Texas - El Paso will participate in both competitions.
