Both NMSU rodeo teams ride to victory in double-header

The New Mexico State University rodeo teams rounded out the top three during the March 15-16 double-header at Central Arizona College in Florence, Arizona.

The women and men?s teams captured more than 31 places in the nine events.

Sheldon Church took the All-Around win on the first day.

?The CAZC rodeos are our mid-season events and are extremely important for championship titles. We performed amazingly with the wins in several of the events,? Brown said.

Among the first-place winners were: Ryan McCauley in saddlebronc, Nicole Sweazea in goat tying, and in team-roping, Lucas McKenzie and Sheldon Church. Tyke Kipp took first in steer wrestling and in team-roping Omar Ramirez held the top spot.

The men?s rodeo team took first place overall for both days, while the women?s team took third place the first day and second place the following day.

Both NMSU teams took places in breakaway, tie-down, saddle bronc riding, barrels, goat tying and tie-down.

?We will have the momentum to push forward and bring home numerous championships at the conclusion of our season at the end of April,? Brown said.

The next rodeo is scheduled for March 21 at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
