Coach: NMSU men?s rodeo unstoppable

The New Mexico State University rodeo team continues to lead the pack in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association?s Grand Canyon Region, picking up another win in Tucson.

?I?m proud of the teams? performance this past weekend,? head coach Jim Brown said. ?They continue to outshine the competition and bring championships back to Las Cruces. I have no doubts our success will continue through the rest of the season.?

The Aggie men?s rodeo team earned first place by gaining more than 200 points over the competition at the University of Arizona March 21, while the women?s team placed in third.

Josh Davison of NMSU received the All-Around title for excellence in the arena.

Riders to take first place were Ryan McCauley in saddlebronc riding, Zoe Billings in breakaway, and Wyatt Jurney in steer wrestling.

?This season has been great for me,? breakaway rider Zoe Billings said. ?I am a freshman, so I didn't know what to expect but I am really happy with how everything is going.?

The Aggies took 17 wins in the nine categories.

Billings became involved in rodeo at the age of 6, following in her father and grandfather?s footsteps. She credits her neighbor with teaching her barrels.

?My goal for this season has been to make the college finals,? Billings said. ?Before I finish college I would like to win a title at the finals.?

The next rodeo will be April 3-4 in Window Rock, Arizona.
