The article and list, published last week, highlights golf courses that feature ?spectacular design and play.? NMSU ranked 18th in the country for those reasons, and because of its professionally accredited Golf Management program, which is administered by NMSU?s College of Business and is officially sponsored by the Professional Golfers Association.

?I am very happy to see that the NMSU Golf Course was recognized as one of the best college golf courses in the country,? said Daniel Koesters, director of golf at the NMSU Golf Course. ?The NMSU Golf Course seems to be overlooked a lot when it comes to rankings, which made this a very nice surprise. Over the past 17 years, I believe that we have been able to improve the golf course tremendously. We have also been able to greatly improve the programs we offer as well as our customer service, and all of that is a credit to the employees who have worked at the NMSU Golf Course during that time.?

The NMSU Golf Course is a championship 18-hole course that is open year round to the public seven days a week. It also hosts tournaments and group outings, and features a pro shop, a variety of lesson programs and the Players Grill restaurant.

?Designed by (renowned golf course architect) Floyd Farley, this course plays at par 72 with a length of 7,078 yards from the furthest tees,? Mackenzi Flannery wrote in the article. ?It has top-notch practice facilities, and player development programs (run) by PGA tour professionals.?

The golf course opened in 1963. In 2007, the course debuted a short game practice area.

First golf tee-time is 7:15 a.m. The course?s driving range opens at dawn and closes 15 minutes before sunset. Foot golf is offered after 3 p.m. daily.
