On April 24, Golem was presented with the Outstanding Dietetic Educator of the Year award in Albuquerque by the New Mexico Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics during their annual conference. The award recognizes ?the teaching, mentoring and leadership activities of faculty in approved and accredited dietetic education programs,? according to the NMAND website.

Two days later, Golem was named Advisor of the Year at the NMSU Leadership Awards Ceremony at the Las Cruces Convention Center for going ?above and beyond to assist the student organization they advise.? She was nominated for the award by students from the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics at NMSU.

Golem is an assistant professor in Human Nutrition and Dietetic Science in the college?s Family and Consumer Sciences Department. She has been at NMSU since September 2014.

?Unbeknownst to me, my colleagues and many of my students nominated me and provided pictures and letters of support,? Golem said. ?I was completely surprised by both of these awards and am overwhelmed by the appreciation of those that work with me. This is my second year here at NMSU and I am happy that my efforts have made an impact on my students and my colleagues.?

Golem said she has worked closely with her colleagues and students to create ?a vision of excellence that we can move toward.?

?I care a lot about the success of the HNDS students and of the program,? Golem said. ?I was astonished to see that my students and colleagues were not only able to see how much I care but were inspired to nominate me for these two awards.?

Esther Devall, head of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department, called Golem ?a wonderful addition? the department.

?She is an engaging teacher who motivates students to do their best, and a skilled researcher whose interest in obesity prevention, weight prejudice, and sports nutrition will benefit the citizens of New Mexico,? Devall said. ?In addition, she provides leadership for the accredited undergraduate program in dietetics.?
