University's annual biology symposium is Saturday

New Mexico State University's 15th Annual Biology Department Symposium will be held Saturday, March 16, in Room 153 of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Building on the main campus.

nt, which begins at 9 a.m. and is expected to conclude about 3:30 p.m., will feature presentations by undergraduate and graduate students, staff and faculty in all the biological sciences, from biochemistry to fishery and wildlife sciences. It is open to the public.

The symposium was begun 15 years ago by Laura Huenneke, now head of the biology department at New Mexico State, "to inform the public and other departments at the university about what's happening in the biological sciences at NMSU," said Michele Nishiguchi, assistant professor of biology and one of the organizers of this year's symposium.

"Once a year, it's nice to get together and talk about current ongoing research," Nishiguchi said. "It encourages more interaction among the biological sciences, and students get practice in making formal presentations of their research."

Sponsors for this year's event include DG's Deli, Domino's Pizza, Milagro Coffee y Espresso, Durango Bagels, IGA, Mix restaurant, COAS Books, Silver Assets and Lorenzo's.
