Sheski named interim president at NMSU Grants

Harry Sheski, the vice president for academic affairs at New Mexico State University Grants, has been named interim president of the campus, effective Nov. 1. Felicia Casados, who had served as president of NMSU Grants since 2005, will retire at the end of October.

?Harry Sheski will be an outstanding leader for NMSU Grants,? said Garrey Carruthers, who serves as chancellor of the NMSU system. ?Having worked at the college for a number of years, he understands the challenges faced by NMSU Grants as well as the opportunities the college has going forward.?

Sheski has been the vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer at NMSU Grants since 2006. In those roles, he oversaw faculty, programs and curriculum at the college.

?This is the opportunity of a lifetime,? Sheski said. ?I want to help the college rekindle its relationship with Grants, Cibola County and the larger community.?

Sheski has a bachelor?s in medical technology from the University of Wisconsin. He also holds a master?s in secondary education and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of New Mexico. He previously taught health education at the UNM Gallup campus. Before coming to NMSU, he was interim dean at the University of Montana, Missoula. He has also worked at the Zuni Comprehensive Care Center.
