NMSU Novembrew event at Aggie Memorial Stadium benefits student scholarship

If you?ve ever wondered what it?s like to stand down on the turf at Aggie Memorial Stadium, now?s your chance to find out. Novembrew, the annual beer and wine festival hosted by New Mexico State University?s School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management, will take place on the field at the stadium, and proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for HRTM students.

?Beer and Wine on the 50-yard Line? is the theme of this year?s event, which takes place from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the stadium. The event showcases 150 different craft beers and 75 different wines from National Distributing Company and musical performances from Gertch?s Folly and Chris Baker.

Julie Correa, a college assistant professor in the School of HRTM, said the festival is planned and executed almost entirely by the students in her event-planning course.

?This shows them how a major event runs from beginning to end,? she said. ?We run them through the issues we faced booking the venue, which happens before classes begin, and then they do everything else: the marketing, the logistics, how to set up the field, how to staff the event ? they are a part of the whole process.?

Correa said the stadium was chosen as the location this year to help bring the Las Cruces community to the NMSU campus. A stadium event presented some unique challenges for the students, she said, but it also sparked some great ideas from them.

The 14 students in the course will be assisted by additional volunteers on the day of the event ? and more alcohol server-certified volunteers are needed. For information on volunteering, contact Correa at jzumwalt@nmsu.edu or 575-646-5918.

Tickets are $20 in advance and include entry, 20 samples and a commemorative sampling glass. Special $50 VIP tickets are also available, which include an additional 10 samples, access to a VIP tent with free food and seating, and limited edition beers and wines.

Proceeds from the event will go to the National Distributing Company Endowed Scholarship, which supports a junior or senior student in the School of HRTM. Correa said she hopes Novembrew can raise enough additional funds to award the scholarship to additional students.

Tickets can be purchased at the Pan Am Ticket office, the HRTM office in room 119 of Gerald Thomas Hall, Boot Barn, Horse N Hound Feed & Supply, Campus Bookstore and online at www.PartyTendersINC.com. Guests must be 21 and over, and additional beverages and food will be available for purchase.
