Miss Native American NMSU crowned

New Mexico State University senior Melinda Rose Frank was crowned the 2003-2004 Miss Native American NMSU during a pageant on April 23. The event was part of the American Indian Month festivities at the university.

Frank is a member of the Navajo Tribe and the Mexican People Clan. She is from Newcomb, N.M., which is located on the Navajo Reservation. After receiving her bachelor's degree in community health, she plans to earn a master's degree in public health. Frank is the daughter of Earl and Marilyn Frank of Newcomb.

Miss Native American NMSU contestants were judged on speaking skills, cultural talents and an interview. Frank's duties as Miss Native American NMSU include representing the university in various activities and assisting the American Indian Program in public relations and recruiting.
