With nine student-athletes, six men, three women, led by Coach Logan Corbett, numerous student-athletes placed in the top 15, including: NaLynn Cline of Bernalillo in barrel racing at 15th, Wyatt Lindsay of Las Palomas in steer wrestling at third, and Lucas MacKenzie of Cave Creek, Arizona, in team roping at third.

NMSU?s men?s team finished 10th in the nation.

?I started coaching in January, so it was it was definitely something to build on, we just had some small mistakes that kept us from reaching our potential,? Corbett said.

Nonetheless, Corbett was impressed with his team?s performance, one that he believes has top five potential. ?We just start planning for next year and practicing towards that,? Corbett said.

One of Corbett?s goals since taking over the team in January was to have a team place in the top 10, which the men?s team did, a first since 2011.

When Corbett was first hired he said, ?We?re going to do it big.? He said he was referring to NMSU?s home rodeo and that the team lived up to those claims. ?It?s kind of tough to put on a rodeo and compete at the same time,? Corbett said, ?We did a really good job of putting on a good rodeo and also competing.?

Overall, Corbett was impressed with the student-athletes receiving a new coach mid-season and accepting his changes. He was also impressed with the community and NMSU?s support of the rodeo team.

?It?s been an awesome experience, this first semester, and I?m really looking forward to some of the things we?re doing for next year,? Corbett said.
