Millot named director of NMSU?s new Office of Institutional Equity

Lauri Millot been named as New Mexico State University?s new director of the Office of Institutional Equity and Title IX coordinator. Millot is an experienced attorney and civil rights investigator. She began her duties July 15.


?She has exactly the credentials and experience to make a valuable contribution to our Office of Institutional Equity,? said NMSU Chancellor Garrey Carruthers. ?I am delighted she has accepted this very important position at NMSU.?

NMSU?s Office of Institutional Equity is responsible for monitoring and coordinating compliance with nondiscrimination laws and overseeing the investigations of all complaints alleging discrimination. OIE works proactively to educate employees and students about the laws governing the workplace and to keep the campus community informed on ways to stay safe. The office also investigates discrimination complaints as well as potential Title IX and Americans With Disabilities Act violations for the university.

?NMSU is a highly respected academic institution located in a great part of the country. I?m impressed with NMSU?s commitment to safety, equity and fairness,? Millot said. ?We?re going to work to make sure OIE continues to address student and employee needs in an approachable and personable way.?

Millot has a law degree from the University of Toledo and a bachelor?s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Before coming to NMSU, Millot worked for the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission since 2000. There, she worked as an attorney conducting hearings in unfair labor practice and grievance arbitration and as a hearing officer investigating disputes between labor and management. From 2006 to 2013, she worked in private practice as an arbitrator for Illinois Department of Central Management Services. Previously, she worked for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections as an equal opportunity specialist and for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission as an investigator.
