Mexican Consul to donate books to Las Cruces elementary school

In celebration of El Dia de Los Ninos, Dia de Los Libros, Alejandro Cue, the Mexican Consul in El Paso, will donate textbooks to MacArthur Elementary School in Las Cruces in a ceremony at the school at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 1.

ican government, through the Secretariats for Foreign Relation and Public Education and the Program for Mexican Communities Abroad and in cooperation with the U.S. National Commission for Free Text Books, has donated textbooks annually since 1997 to schools and public libraries in the United States with large populations of Mexican students.

El Dia de Los Ninos, Dia de Los Libros, a celebration of bilingual literacy, is Tuesday, April 30. It is supported by the Southern New Mexico ENLACE Collaborative at New Mexico State University.

ENLACE, Engaging Latino Communities for Education, is a collaborative focused on increasing the high school and college graduation rates for Hispanic students.
