NMSU to host discussion on Women, Labor and Leadership

The New Mexico State University Women's Studies Program and student organization Feminists Reinventing Equality Everywhere (FREE), along with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), will host a panel discussion on "Women, Labor and Leadership."


The event will be held in the Dona Ana Room of the Corbett Center Student Union on the university campus from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27.

The goal of the program is to educate and inform participants about the impact of women on unions and how unions benefit the lives of all women. Topics include "Historical involvement of women in labor history," "Union organizing and women's political involvement," "Impact of unions on women's economic security" and "Why women organize today - what's at stake?"

Panelists include Jamie Bronstein, NMSU labor history professor, and Irasema Garza, director of AFSCME Women's Department.
