Actors from the London Stage to perform "Othello" at New Mexico State University

The New Mexico State University Department of Theatre Arts and the American Southwest Theatre Company (ASTC) will present William Shakespeare's classic drama "Othello," performed by guest company Actors from the London Stage, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3-5 at the Hershel Zohn Theatre on the NMSU campus.

Actors from the London Stage is one of the oldest established touring Shakespeare theater companies in the world. For 13 years, they have performed internationally with the finest Shakespearean actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

"We are honored to bring Las Cruces such a high-profile and high-quality event, even for a limited engagement," said Michael Wise, director and artistic director for the NMSU theater department.

The group also will present acting workshops for NMSU and high school students.

"This highlights what NMSU Theatre Arts and the American Southwest Theatre Company do best, bring internationally renowned artists to Las Cruces while simultaneously offering no or low-cost workshops for our community," said Ruth Cantrell, head of the NMSU theater department and managing director for ASTC.

"Othello" is the second guest production this season. It follows the October performance of "Ladder to the Moon" by Creede Repertory Theatre. ASTC's mission includes bringing nationally and internationally acclaimed artists to Las Cruces to enrich the community's art scene.

Tickets for "Othello" are $10 for students, $13 for senior citizens and NMSU employees and $15 for adults.

For tickets or more information call the ASTC box office at (505) 646-4515 or 1-800-525-ASTC.
