NMSU MUSEUM TO OPEN TWO NEW EXHIBITS


African currency and highway archaeology will be featured at the New Mexico State University Museum this month.

"The Artistry of African Currency" will open Saturday, Jan. 8, and run through Feb 19. This exhibit from the Smithsonian's Traveling Exhibition Service will feature actual samples and interpretive panels of various currencies once used in African Societies, including salt, shells, beads, metal, jewelry, woven cloth and indigenous and European coins.

"Roads to the Past: Fifty Years of Highway Archaeology" will open Saturday, Jan. 15, and run through March 15. The exhibit will celebrate the history of highway archaeology, its impact on local communities and the archaeological practice, and its contribution to museum collections and to knowledge of the past. It is traveling under the auspices of TREX: The Traveling Exhibitions Programs of the Museum of New Mexico

TEACHING ACADEMY TO HOLD SPECIAL EVENT

New Mexico State University's Teaching Academy will hold a special event titled "Fostering Critical Thinking in Scientific Disciplines and Across the Curriculum" from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, in Milton Hall Room 50.

NMSU PRESIDENT TO BE INAUGURATED

The inauguration of New Mexico State University President Michael Martin will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, in the Pan American Center.

The inauguration, which will celebrate "The Land-Grant Mission: Doing What Counts," will be followed by an Aggie barbecue and public reception in the east parking lot of the Pan American Center.

Prior to the inaugural ceremony on Friday, there will be a panel discussion at 10 a.m. featuring New Mexico's higher education leaders in the Corbett Center East Ballroom.

The academic symposia and events hosted as part of the celebration will include an open forum with visiting presidents at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in the Corbett Center East Ballroom. A reception for faculty, staff and students will follow at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in the Corbett Center West Ballroom.

OPENING RECEPTION FOR FACULTY ART SHOW TO BE AT NMSU

An opening reception for the New Mexico State University Biennial Faculty Show will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, in the University Art Gallery. The exhibit will run through Feb. 24.

Every two years, the faculty and professional staff of the Art Department get the opportunity to showcase their recent artwork in the NMSU Art Gallery. Most faculty members and staff are represented by commercial galleries and regularly exhibit their work at other venues. The Biennial Faculty Show gives the regional community and prospective art students an opportunity to see what members of the department are creating.
