New Mexico State University ensemble chosen to perform at conference

New Mexico State University Symphonic Winds was chosen to perform at the bi-annual Southwest College Band Director's National Association (SW-CBDNA) division conference March 11-14, 2004, at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.


s the first time one of our bands has been chosen to perform at a SW-CBDNA conference," said Ken Van Winkle, director of bands. "This is our top concert band and we are very excited about this opportunity."

The Ensemble Screening Committee chose nine ensembles to perform at the conference after a blind adjudication process in which judges listened to recordings submitted by all SW-CBDNA ensembles.

Other ensembles chosen include Baylor University, Texas A & M - College Station, Texas A & M - Commerce, Texas Christian University, the University of Arkansas, the University of Central Oklahoma, the University of North Texas and the University of Texas at Austin.

The Southwest division of CBDNA is comprised of college band directors from New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas. The purpose of the CBDNA is to assist members in seeking individual and collective growth as musicians, educators, conductors and administrators.
