"Night Journey" is a room-size installation that re-creates the experience of dreaming by combining large-scale photographic murals printed on chiffon fabric with audio recordings of whispered "dream phrases." The murals are suspended and create a maze for the viewer and the audio recording becomes more or less audible as the viewer moves through the installation.

The opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the University Art Gallery. A gallery talk will be held during the reception at 6:15 p.m. Grant will also present a free public lecture at 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 21, in Williams Hall Room 212.

The exhibit is a product of seven years of research done by Grant and sleep researcher John Herman. As a subject at the Southwest Medical Center Sleep Laboratory, Grant experienced rapid eye movement (REM) sleep awakenings and later underwent interrogation sessions with trained technicians. The data collected was the inspiration for "Night Journey."

The University Art Gallery is located in Williams Hall near the intersection of Solano Drive and University Avenue. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
