New Mexico State University theater holds children's auditions

The New Mexico State University Department of Theatre Arts will hold an audition from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Hershel Zohn Theatre for children ages 4 to 18 who are interested in performing in "A Christmas Carol."

to 4:30 p.m., girls ages 9 to 14 can audition for the roles of Fan and Belinda Cratchit and boys ages 12 to 18 can audition for the roles of Young Scrooge and Peter Cratchit. Those auditioning will read from the script and sing their favorite Christmas carol a capella.

Boys and girls ages 4 to 7 can audition for the role of Tiny Tim, which will be double-cast between two actors, from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. The auditions for this role will include stage movement and games.

Children falling outside the requested age ranges will not be considered. A total of four children will be cast for the production -- one girl to play Fan and Belinda Crachit, one boy to play Young Scrooge and Peter Crachit and two children, either boys or girls, to play Tiny Tim.

Rehearsals will begin Sunday, Oct. 26, and will be from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday. The role of Tiny Tim will not be called to every rehearsal.

Performances of "A Christmas Carol" will run Nov. 26 through Dec. 7. There will be no performance on Thanksgiving Day.
