Philosophy department sponsors talks on ethics

William J. Frey, professor of philosophy at the University of Puerto Rico at MayagŁez, will talk about ethics in two public presentations at New Mexico State University Sept. 25 and 26.


the associate director of the Center for Philosophy in its Interdisciplinary Function, an ethics center affiliated with UPRM. For the past 12 years he has taught courses in business, engineering and environmental ethics at UPRM.

At 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, he will give a talk titled "Integrating Ethics into the University Curriculum." At 3:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, he will present "Options for an Ethics Minor." Both talks will be in Room 333 of Breland Hall and both are open to the public.

Frey's visit is sponsored by the NMSU Department of Philosophy, which is in the process of developing an ethics program that will appeal to a variety of students across the university. Frey will suggest strategies for developing a supplementary ethics minor in philosophy and for enhancing course offerings in business ethics, engineering ethics, biomedical ethics, and computer ethics. He also will discuss possible joint initiatives and proposals between the NMSU ethics program and the ethics center at UPRM.
