Nutrition in HIV treatment will be presented Oct. 7

Lark Lands, a noted expert in the field of nutrition in HIV treatment, will present "Positively Well: The Role of Nutrition in HIV" from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Best Western Mesilla Valley Inn and Conference Center, 901 Avenida de Mesilla.


talk will address cellular effects of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, and the drugs used in treatment. The provided information will enable nurses and dietitians to teach their HIV-positive clients how to live with HIV by combining effective pharmaceutical treatment with supportive nutritional therapy to counter drug side effects.

The program is sponsored by the Southern Area Health Education Center, a program of New Mexico State University's Department of Health Sciences, the New Mexico AIDS Education and Training Center, Camino de Vida and the Food and Drug Administration.

The presentation is approved for continuing education units for registered nurses and dietitians.
