Shannon will be honored at the society's "Pride in the Profession" luncheon in Albuquerque, along with nine other outstanding certified public accountants (CPA). She also will be featured in the fall edition of the "CPA Journal."

"I am very surprised and pleased," Shannon said. "I have some wonderful friends and colleagues that took the time and effort to see that I was nominated."

In a letter to Shannon, Gari Fails, president of NMSCPA, said that her outstanding accomplishments have enhanced the CPA profession's reputation.

Shannon has served at NMSU since 1988 in faculty and professional accounting positions before assuming her current position as director of the internal audit functions for NMSU's main and branch campuses.
