New Mexico State Choirs to kick off 2001-02 season with patriotic show

Season tickets for the New Mexico State University Choirs are now on sale.

irs kick off the 2001-02 season on Oct.12 and 13 with "Let Us Entertain You IV." The show will feature pop, patriotic and other styles of music.

Two hundred singers will gather for "Home for the Holidays," the annual holiday concert, which will be held Nov. 16 and 17. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets early, as the show usually sells out. The featured piece for this show will be Handel's "Chandos Anthem #9" performed by University Singers and the University Chamber Orchestra. Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" will be the traditional closing piece.

The Jack Ward Invitational Choral Festival will be held March 8 and 9. This concert will feature three visiting high school choirs, Mayfield High School Varsity Singers, Hanks High School Choir from El Paso and Clint High School from Clint, Texas. The show will include Brahms' motets and three Argentine songs including a tango by Astor Piazolla.

The season will conclude with "A Psalm Will Rise" on April 26 and 27. The show will feature Leonard Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms" and a new work by Donald McCullough, "Holocaust Cantata, Songs from the Camps."
