NMSU to be illuminated with lights

New Mexico State University will hold its annual Noche de Luminarias (Night of Lights) from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at Corbett Center Student Union.

nt is one of the largest luminaria displays in southern New Mexico with more than 6,000 luminarias illuminating the university's International Mall from the Pan American Center to Corbett Center. Last year's festivities drew more than 2,500 students, faculty, staff and community members.

"The quiet and peaceful walk down the NMSU campus captures the essence of the holiday season and gives you time to enjoy the company of family and friends," said Bruce Vandevender, assistant director of campus activities.

Las Cruces High School Band members will make and light the luminarias.

Holiday activities at the Night of Lights traditionally includes music, caroling, riding in a horse-drawn trolley and a visit from Santa Claus. Children can have a Polaroid picture taken with Santa for $1 and all other activities are free.

Sponsors include the Union Program Council, Corbett Center Student Union, Associated Students of NMSU, the Department of Housing and Residential Life, ARAMARK, the NMSU President's Office and the University Bookstore.
