Music department to perform version of "Sara McKinnon" for area schools

The New Mexico State University music department will tour area schools Sept. 11 through 13 to perform a version of the new opera "Sara McKinnon."

Cast members will perform in select schools in the Las Cruces and Gadsden districts. Original cast members Juline Barol-Gilmore as Sara and Jon Linford as Mr. Singh and in a new role as Florentino will be joined by David Rocha as Dr. Felipe Quinones.

"Sara McKinnon," by composer Randall Shinn and playwright Mark Medoff, premiered this summer at the university. A classic tall tale placed in the American Southwest during the 1870s, it centers on a female sheriff who changes the lives of everyone around her.
