Paso Del Norte book series calls for manuscripts

"Paso Del Norte: Integrating the Region," a new series dedicated to publishing and distributing works dealing with topics relating to the Las Cruces, El Paso and Ciudad Juarez border region and its inhabitants, is calling for manuscripts.

ies was created by the Center for Latin American Studies at New Mexico State University, El Colegio de la Frontera Norte and la Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez, under the guidance of the Hewlett Foundation, and is looking for manuscripts in the areas of arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and engineering.

Ricardo Aguilar Melantzon, professor of language and linguistics at New Mexico State, said there will be at least four or five publications, "but it will depend on how many manuscripts we receive, how expensive they are to publish, and whether we publish both English and Spanish versions. We only have $20,000 to work with."

Manuscripts in English and Spanish written by authors of any nationality, as well as unpublished monographs, anthologies, edited volumes, novels, short-story and poetry collections developing themes related to the border region, will be considered.

"If we don't have the funds to publish both English and Spanish versions, we'll have a mixed set, but that would also be reflective of the region," Aguilar Melantzon said.

One of Aguilar Melantzon's goals is to promote the establishment of a press that will publish more text within the border region.

"We feel there's a great need for publication about the area and networking that will lead to text about the region that will help it grow. The border issues are becoming more important, and we need more outlets," Aguilar Melantzon said.

Manuscripts should be between 150 and 300 pages; poetry should be between 60 and 80 pages. All materials should be sent to one of the following:
