NMSU theater professor wins national award

New Mexico State University theater assistant professor Tom Smith won the 2004 Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) Playworks Award for his dramatic play "Gray."


play is about the decline in the relationship between a young couple as a mysterious street kid interrupts their comfortable lives. It was presented by the No Strings Theatre Company in 2002.

The ATHE Playworks Award will include a workshop production of the play at ATHE's 2004 conference in Toronto, Canada, in July and will feature professionals from around the United States.

Smith also won the Robert J. Pickering Award for his farce, "Drinking Habits," in January.
