New Mexico State University to hold events for Fiestas Latinas

New Mexico State University's Chicano Programs will hold Fiestas Latinas, a series of events that are held each spring, through the beginning of May.

ican American Engineers and Scientists will host a comedy hour and dance from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, April 23, in Preciado Park. Professional comic Patrick Candelaria will entertain visitors and food will be served. A dance with disc jockey David Bedy will follow the comedy hour, which is for mature audiences only.

A Children's Carnival, sponsored by the Kappa Delta Chi sorority, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, in Preciado Park. Games, finger foods and creative activities for children will be featured. A "brinca-brinca," or jumping balloon, will be available for small children. Parents must sign a release form before children can enter the brinca-brinca.

Preciado Park is located at Williams Avenue and Gregg Street on the NMSU campus.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers will host an Outstanding Hispanic Student Award Reception Friday, April 30, in the Otero Room of Corbett Center. Two outstanding Hispanic students, one male and one female, from each college will be recognized and presented with the award. The awards presentation will be from 7 to 7:30 p.m. and the reception will follow from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

A softball tournament, hosted by the Omega Delta Phi fraternity, will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 1, on the field south of the NMSU Activity Center. Team enrollment forms are available in the Chicano Programs office in Garcia Annex Room 138, the Greek Life Office in Corbett Center Room 235 or at www.nmsu.edu/~odphi.

Fiestas Latinas is sponsored by the Associated Students of NMSU. The events are free and open to the public.
