NMSU campus observatory to hold open house Feb. 3

New Mexico State University's Department of Astronomy will hold an open house at the campus observatory starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3.


permitting, participants will observe the first-quarter moon (mountains and craters), the planets Mars and Saturn; the Orion Nebula (stellar nursery) and different star clusters.

Astronomy personnel on hand will be faculty member Kurt Anderson and graduate students Roberto Avila, Jessica Evans and Pey-Lian Lim.

The Tombaugh Observatory is located east of Williams Avenue, near the running track. Admission is free and children are welcome. The domes are not heated, so dress according to the weather.
