He will serve as a member of the New Mexico Space Port Authority.

Gov. Bill Richardson appointed Woods to the board. The New Mexico Senate confirmed the appointment Jan. 18.

"I'm really honored to be named to this position and thankful to the people who supported me," Woods said. "The first priority will be the planning and execution of the construction of the spaceport. I will do my part to ensure that the funds with which we are entrusted are spent effectively and efficiently."

State Senator Leonard Lee Rawson (R-N.M.) sponsored Woods for the appointment.

"Ben Woods will be a valuable asset to the New Mexico Space Port," Rawson said. "I know he will serve the state well in this position. I applaud the governor for the appointment and the Senate for its confirmation."

Woods' term ends June 17, 2007.
