New Mexico State CHOICES program receives award

The CHOICES program at New Mexico State University received a $1,000 award from the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention and the New Mexico American Automobile Association for promoting alcohol awareness.


ICES program consists of students who promote and encourage responsible choices about alcohol and sexual assault prevention. The program received the award based on its efforts to prevent or reduce drinking and driving and prevent or control alcohol or other drug use which can result in impaired driving. One award is given in the state.

The money from the award will be used for peer education programs and the Social Norms Campaign at the university.

Student members of CHOICES also gave a presentation at a conference on underage drinking held recently in Las Cruces. The presentation addressed sexual assault and alcohol awareness. The presentation was aimed at high school students interested in peer educating about alcohol awareness.
