Magazine ranks New Mexico State among top universities for Hispanics

The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, a national journal of higher education, has ranked New Mexico State University as one of the nation's top colleges and universities for Hispanic students.


azine's May 6 issue ranked the Top 100 Colleges for Hispanics based on numbers of degrees awarded to Hispanic students. New Mexico State ranked 18th overall in the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to Hispanics and placed in the top 10 in bachelor's degrees awarded to Hispanics in five academic areas -- agriculture, computer science, engineering, home economics and protective services.

New Mexico State also ranked 10th overall in Hispanic enrollment among four-year colleges, 11th overall in the number of Hispanic administrators and faculty, 32nd overall in the number of master's degrees awarded to Hispanics and 37th overall in the number of doctoral degrees awarded to Hispanics.

"This reflects the wonderful work this institution does in serving the Hispanic population and recruiting faculty and staff, as well as the work the staff does in supporting and mentoring the students to ensure their success in graduate school," said New Mexico State University Provost William Flores.
