Police and fire training to take place on NMSU campus

Several training events for Las Cruces and Dona Ana County police and firefighters are scheduled to take place over the next few months on the New Mexico State University campus.

The New Mexico State University Fire Department will train with the Las Cruces Fire Department in some of its exercises and also will train alone.

From Tuesday, Feb. 21, through Thursday, Feb. 23, the crew of Ladder Truck Four of the LCFD will undergo ventilation and rescue training, beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at an undetermined time each day.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team will conduct training from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 7 and 9. After 5 p.m. on March 7, 8 and 9, the LCFD will conduct search and rescue training.

From March 21 through 23, the LCFD's initial Rapid Intervention Crew will train at the building.

From March 28 through 30, the LCFD will learn about forcible entry.

The LCFD's Rapid Intervention Crew will undergo firefighter rescue training April 11 through 13, go through "Save Our Own" training April 18 through 20, and learn how to determine the causes of fire April 25 through 27.

The Dona Ana County Exercise Design Committee is developing a final multi-agency exercise to take place in the first part of May.
