New Mexico State Dance Program offers summer classes for youth

The New Mexico State University Dance Program is offering a two-week summer dance program for young dancers June 17-28.

mer Youth Dance Institute for dancers ages 7-18 will feature three programs with one morning and two afternoon sessions. Each program consists of four 50-minute classes. From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. classes for students interested in ballet, tap and modern dance will be offered. From 1 to 5 p.m. classes for students interested in hip-hop, jazz and break dancing will be available. Also from 1 to 5 p.m. classes for those interested in cheerleading, pom and tumbling will be offered.

All three programs offer a creative process class in which students will have the opportunity to create their own work from the material learned in the classes.

The students' accomplishments from the class work and dances created will be presented on Friday, June 28, during the day at local senior citizens centers and in the evening for parents and guests at Rentfrow Gymnasium on the New Mexico State campus.

The fee for two weeks of half day classes is $150. The fee for two weeks of full day classes is $250. There are a limited number of partial scholarships available.
