"Pianos I Have Known" written and directed by New Mexico State instructor

New Mexico State University adjunct college instructor Nancy Hastings has written a play about the history of the piano, which will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Downtown Mall.

I Have Known" is a look at the history of the piano from 1910-1945 and is based on the Smithsonian Institute's special exhibit called "Piano 300," which was displayed last year. The play is a tribute to the 300-year history of the piano and those who teach piano and includes stories about people whose lives were touched by the piano.

The cast of the play includes Richard Rundell as narrator, Marco Jimenez as pianist and Constance Suter and Isaac Quiroga as actors. Also appearing on the program will be award-winning song writer Monica Gomez, who was inducted into the "El Paso Women's Hall of Fame" in 1995. Director of the Mesilla Valley Concert Band William Clark will give a brief talk on "The New Horizons Band." The featured poet at the program will be Michelle Holland, a widely published author and English teacher at Onate High School.

Hastings, who is directing the play, is also a visiting writer for the Emerging Voices Program hosted by University Terrace Good Samaritan Village.

Tickets for the performance are $7 and all proceeds will go to the Emerging Voices Program of the Border Book Festival.
